Distinguished by a historical Javanese ‘joglo’ living pavilion and contemporary-colonial architecture, the exquisite Villa Oost Indies (formerly Villa Des Indes 2) presents three bedrooms, a swimming pool and garden. Original colonial-style furnishings produced from indigenous teakwood and rattan by local craftsmen interpret Dutch designs, while reflecting the desires of the colonial era with lazy planter chairs, marble-topped tables and washstands, sumptuous silks, Chinese and Indonesian antiques, artefacts and curios. Here, in atmospheric luxury, guests can look forward to a captivating journey back through time, combined with the exemplary services of personal butlers and a top-class chef.
Much of the antique timber from the century-old joglo – which was once the home of a Javanese nobleman – has been utilised, and can be seen throughout Villa Oost Indies in the form of wood-panelled screen walls and recycled teakwood floors. Yet the 21st century comes into its own with all the modern comforts, ranging from air-conditioning to flat screen TVs and DVD players in the bedrooms, steaming monsoon showers in the bathrooms, and the facilities of a fully-equipped high-tech kitchen.
Luxury Bedrooms
The two master suites are identical in size and layout and positioned in the main building, one upstairs and one downstairs, overlooking the swimming pool and the garden. Each of these suites is fully air-conditioned and comprises a bedroom with an adjoining sitting room, an ensuite bathroom, a dressing room and a private sheltered veranda. Each of the master bedrooms is furnished with a king-size, four-poster bed draped in snowy netting, complemented by oriental carpets, bedside lamps, and prints of travel posters from the 1930′s. Each bathroom is fitted with a marble clad walk-in monsoon shower, a pair of pedestal washbasins, and a large freestanding bathtub. The adjoining dressing rooms present wardrobes, mirrors and antique washstands or dressing tables, while the veranda and balcony-veranda are both furnished with colonial-style lazy chairs. Each cosy sitting room is equipped with a comfortable sofa that doubles as a bed for a child, a desk and an antique medicine chest.
The third bedroom is positioned upstairs in a separate wing of the building, accessed by a dedicated external staircase and, if required, by a private entrance gate that leads through a pretty, courtyard garden. With a private and sheltered balcony-veranda on the far side that enjoys a charming view of the red-tiled Balinese rooftops, this spacious bedroom is furnished with Hollywood twin beds, which can be converted to a king-size bed if necessary. Other furnishings include a cushioned corner sofa, an antique chest of drawers and an oriental carpet upon a wooden floor under a high ceiling. The ensuite bathroom is fitted with a pair of freestanding washbasins and a large walk-in monsoon shower with a handheld option.
Electronic technology in each bedroom includes air-conditioning as well as ceiling fans, a safe, an independently controlled satellite-channel TV with DVD player, a drinks fridge, and an iPod dock.
Living & Dining
Entering the villa though a pair of time-honoured Chinese doors, guests will find themselves in an open-sided living and dining pavilion incorporated within a beautiful ‘joglo’ – the core of a traditional Javanese timber house, which was crafted more than 100 years ago in Limasan, Central Java. The building was constructed using traditional tongue and groove techniques without the application of any metallic nails or bolts. Much later, it was rescued from demolition and transported to Bali to be methodically reconstructed on site. Offering tropical living at its very best, the joglo is lovingly furnished with cushioned wooden sofas, plantation chairs, oriental rugs, a dining table and an afternoon tea table. From here, guests have direct access to the stone pool deck, swimming pool and garden. A guest washroom is positioned to one side.
On the ground-level terrace of the main building is a bar with four high stools, while tucked away behind is a professional service kitchen equipped with a 5-burner gas hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals. Next to this is the staff service area complete with a back-up generator set

Rates
The nightly tariff represents the cost per night for a maximum of two guests per bedroom. All rates are cost per villa per night, shown in US Dollars and subject to an additional 21% for Service Charge and Government Tax.
